ARTHUR
Marketing student

What's better than the Place des Vosges to take a photo? For Arthur – this is the ideal place.

So it was not far from there that we met this Marais resident who says he lives to “shoot himself!” »

This is surely true, but what this student, at the end of his studies and with a devastating smile, demonstrates throughout the conversation is his self-deprecation.

“I like the way of life on the right bank, the people are nice, I have my little haunts, my good addresses to supply me with macaroons. Every time I go out, I am drawn to the Pierre Hermé boutique or that of the chocolatier Le Lautrec.”

Arthur, who lived in the 2nd then in Shanghai before landing in the best district of Paris, tells us about this place which gives him a lot of joy.

“I love the incomparable feeling of freedom that you find in the sector. During my studies in China, I realized that unlike here, gays, even in big cities, cannot embrace their sexuality in broad daylight, they are so observed that they make sure to remain hidden,” explains the young man. man who is preparing to join the marketing department of a large French group.

When asked about fashion, another of his addictions, he laughs: “I'm a real weather vane: before I didn't like Gucci but gradually I began to appreciate this flashy side, bling bling. Because in reality I prefer it when it hits, when it's original. I love luxury brands: Versace, Balenciaga and Gucci especially for shoes. They're discreet, right? » he suddenly asks, pointing to the ones he wears on his feet.

We want to answer: "It's true my dear Arthur, your shoes are not very discreet, but precisely in these times, we prefer joyful ostentation to boring temperance."

Divine brunch at the foot of Notre-Dame

Of course, officially, it is not the Marais. But at Son de la Terre, a barge recently moored at the Montebello quay (5th), the 4th arrondissement is in sight. Moreover, this one is incredible: on one side, it is Notre-Dame flooded with sunlight; on the other, the quays, the book sellers, the walkers, the joggers.

Here is an address which gives the measure of the transformation of the Marais. And it's enough to silence the grumpy people whose mantra is: “It was better before…” No, everything was not better “before” in the Marais. Besides, there was no American bar like Saka, which cultivates a form of excellence that can only be found in Japan.
