Of course, officially, it is not the Marais. But at Son de la Terre, a barge recently moored at the Montebello quay (5th), the 4th arrondissement is in sight.

Moreover, this one is incredible: on one side, it is Notre-Dame flooded with sunlight; on the other, the quays, the book sellers, the walkers, the joggers. In short, everything that tourists who travel half the globe dream of only to find themselves right here.

In the past, this kind of location – ideally located at kilometer zero of the most visited city in the world – automatically became a “tourist trap”. This morning, it's the opposite. For 35 euros, Le Son de la Terre offers a flawless experience: a quality brunch in an extraordinary setting.

We start with the classics: basket of mini pastries, choice of organic jams, honey, salted butter, pressed orange and coffee or tea (from Kodama, a rising brand). The main course must be chosen from the menu. We opt for – and recommend – the Bun'n Roll: a scramble of Maine free-range eggs with salad leaves and bacon or smoked trout, all in an impeccable flaky brioche.

Among the other options, also top notch: warm croissant with Prince de Paris ham, melted emmental and poached egg; or duo of boiled eggs; or even kosher pastrami bagel. We enjoy. And, from time to time, we take a look at Notre-Dame de Paris (which will reopen at the end of 2024) lit by the morning sun. The service, attentive but without fuss, adds to the pleasure of the moment.

Watching the Seine flow, immediately within reach, while appreciating the quality of each product on the plate, we must face the facts: we are lucky to be in Paris.

NB: the Le Son de la Terre barge also houses a bar and, on the lower floor, a jazz club.
