Do you know the bao? This ultra-soft, steamed white bun is a bun of Chinese origin (but found throughout Southeast Asia) traditionally filled with meat or vegetables – or both.

A specialist in the genre, Superbao, a stone's throw from the Marais (an address on the République side, another very close to Bastille) actually offers great “baos burgers” in a fun setting!

This “fast-food” restaurant mixes Asian influences in its famous steamed sandwiches but also bentos (Japanese meal trays) or even small starters, to share at the start: melting Sichuan eggplant, Asian slaw (Asian version of coleslaw) crunchy as can be.

Made in house every morning from organic flour from the Bourgeois mills, the baos are, as they should be, light enough not to overwhelm the filling: decadent fried chicken or vegetarian version (vegan possible) with grilled tofu. Served at lunchtime in a set menu for 16 euros, they are accompanied by crispy homemade fries and a “home made” drink.

As for bento (13 to 15 euros), there's freshness and balance. Protein, rice, vegetables, everything is there. Presented in a wooden box, it is an express and gourmet return trip to Tokyo, with your choice of salmon, chicken, tofu or beef.

For dessert, the homemade sesame crème brûlée (6 euros) is also tempting. We'll come back and test it!

The best tattoo parlors in Marais

Tattooing, an age-old practice, has long been the prerogative of convicts, dock workers, the underworld and sailors. Although it has become democratized, now affecting all profiles and concerning one in five French people, including 16% women compared to 10% men, it still remains taboo due to its definitive and transgressive nature.
