Good news ! Video games have not completely supplanted traditional toys, as the resilience of Lego shows. To celebrate its 90th anniversary, Danish brick has chosen to exhibit its know-how in the Marais, in Paris, at the top of rue de Turenne at the Galerie Joseph space, on two floors.

There are still a few days left, until September 25, to appreciate the playful potential of bricks invented in Billund in 1932 by Ole Kirk Christiansen, a carpenter who first began manufacturing wooden toys.

In 1936, he came up with the name for his successful company, Lego, which comes from “leg godt” (play well, in Danish). Three years later his workshop had ten employees. The molded plastic brick was created in 1949. In the 1960s, the company employed 400 people and the first Legoland park opened in Billund. Since then, worldwide success has continued thanks to the creative potential of this toy which allows you to achieve an infinite number of things.

At the “Lego, 90 years of creativity” exhibition, we admire a four-meter-high tree, figurines of all sizes, castles including that of Harry Potter, a red Ferrari, an electric train, a spaceship, the Titanic, and even cubist (obviously) or figurative paintings like this portrait of Frida Kahlo made entirely of bricks acting as a mosaic.

It's playful, it's colorful, it's beautiful and it's fun. “We are fans,” admits Emilie Le Goff, a management technician who came from Brittany as a family to visit the exhibition with her carpenter husband Pierre and their two daughters aged 12 and 7, Louann and Lilia. “In winter, we display all our Legos in a room in the house and we play as a family,” says this mother, who is able to list the brand's different ranges, from Lego Friends to Lego Star Wars. “It’s great for developing children’s imagination. We never get bored. » And proudly conclude: “We don't have a games console, we don't need one! »
