The Picasso Museum is preparing for its transformation. By 2030, the Hôtel Salé is slated to gain a sculpture garden, a new wing for temporary exhibitions, and redesigned spaces. This €55 million project could well change the cultural landscape of the Marais district.
Perhaps the most spectacular feature will be outdoors. The museum aims to reclaim the historical footprint of the 17th-century garden and create a Picasso sculpture garden, featuring around ten monumental bronzes. Conceived as a cool and refreshing space in the Marais district, it should also welcome children and further integrate the surrounding landscape into the museum experience.

The project, entirely self-financed, represents 55 million euros. Part of it comes from an unprecedented arrangement involving the Picasso heirs, the DQ Art Foundation, the Rijksmuseum and French and international patrons.
It remains to be seen what kind of architecture will take its place in this highly sought-after part of the Marais. The answer will come in 2027.
