MAGNIFIES INDIA AND ITS CREATORS

Clearly, 2023 will have been the year of India. In August, the South Asian giant joined the very exclusive club of countries which have placed a machine on the moon (after the United States, the USSR and China). And in November, Deeya landed in the Marais.

Created by a former model of Indian origin and a Frenchman from the art world, this concept store offers the best of Indian fashion, with contemporary styling that contradicts the cliché according to which Indian fashion is anchored in a folklore.

Located rue du Bourg-Tibourg (very close to Mariage Frères), the brand draws on ancestral know-how in the textile, jewelry and design sectors to showcase striking and timeless creations.

On the boutique side, we find suits (skirts or pants) in silk brocade, dresses with geometric patterns, delicate white blouses in organic cotton voile, delicately hand-embroidered chasubles, bags woven with glass beads or even jewelry and objects for the home, like these saffron or pomegranate red cushions. There are also collections for men: jackets, sweaters, coats, etc.

As for the gallery space, it is an exhibition space that forges links between India and France by offering a cutting-edge program of photo, graphic art and design exhibitions. For its first exhibition, the gallery honors art deco in Bombay, with an exhibition of photographs by Shahid Datawala, around the famous “Liberty” cinema.

Everywhere, the selection is flawless, which can be explained by the pedigree of the founders. Originally from Bombay, Marielou worked at Chanel in close collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld. In 2005, she moved to booming India to establish and develop the house of Chanel while managing the styling of local and Bollywood celebrities.

For his part, Matthieu has an expert eye which he draws from his experience in the field of photography. Member of the founding team of Paris Photo, he has collaborated with numerous Parisian galleries on the creation of exhibitions and events. In 2006, he launched the first private photography gallery in Bombay, helping to open the Indian art market to photography.

Back in France for several years, the couple devotes themselves to promoting fashion, culture and design from India, with carefully selected collections, which favor ethical practices and promote “made in India” know-how. » from Bombai, New Delhi, Jaipur, Calcutta, Srinagar and Goa.
