Veganuary, a contraction of 'vegan' and 'January', is an initiative encouraged during the month of January, encouraging people to adopt a vegan lifestyle. This campaign aims to raise awareness and promote the benefits of vegan diet for health, environment and animal welfare. On this occasion we have selected a few vegan addresses in the Marais.

Theory

In theory, a burger is meat. However, the Theory fast food restaurant (with a “Y”) offers entirely vegan, gourmet and healthy recipes. Initially, Theory only made burgers. But as it now offers other dishes, the brand changed its name: “Burger theory” became “Theory”.

There are always burgers of course, but also savory bowls, acai bowls and amazing sides – sweet potato fries, roasted cauliflower, decadent milkshakes.

On the burger side, there is the Portobello road, with its large Portobello mushroom, its “Mac sauce”, vegan “cheese”, candied peppers, red cabbage and chives. The bread is soft and the toppings are made from fresh produce. Theory uses imitation meat (protein meat substitute) from Heura, therefore of good quality and a homemade “pané”, surprisingly firm and very similar to a breaded escalope.

As for the bowls, there are two “homemade” options and the possibility of creating your own, with all available and seasonal ingredients – squash and red cabbage. As for commitment, here, we think as much about animals as about the planet: green electricity, anti-waste approach, use of organic and local products where possible. An address to test… In theory AND in practice.

Lolillol and its vegan vanilla ice cream

©Lolilol

Did you think that eating vegan ice cream was necessarily synonymous with sorbet? Oatly will prove you wrong!

The brand of barista-favorite vegetable oat drink has launched into ice cream and offers a vanilla sundae-style ice cream. For the moment, it is offered in only one brand… Du Marais!

It’s happening at Lollilol. In a pot or in a cone of vegan chimney cake, we appreciate the smoothness and delicate vanilla flavor. Surprisingly, the characteristic notes of oats are discreet and the sweetness reasonable.

We knew the address for comforting snacks, we come back there for a refreshing break.

Land and Monkeys

©Land and Monkeys

This is a neighborhood bakery where you can find artisanal bread, pastries, pastries and sandwiches. Everything that is more classic do you think? Except that everything here is plant-based.

No trace of animal products at Land and Monkeys. The sister brand of Maison Landemaine aims to be a “positive impact” brand. Its motto is to offer a plant-based, less carbon-intensive diet to French people, without forcing them to change their habits.

We therefore find the great classics: a croissant for the morning, a quiche Lorraine or a buttered ham for lunch, a cookie for snack and pastries to share for dinner. Everything is revisited with plant substitutes. The presentations are meticulous and the tastes faithful to any mistake.

Some creations from the house, with a more plant-based identity, allow you to change (still) a little from its classics, such as the Umami sandwich with smoked tofu or the Kale cauliflower quiche.

On the sweet side, why not venture to the Orient and taste an Azahar tartlet which combines almond, pistachio and orange blossom?

Hank

©Hank

Open for 10 years, Hank is the pioneer of the vegan burger in Paris. French ingredients, with impeccable traceability, organic wherever possible, the brand tries to commit to animals and the planet.

The burgers range from the most classic, Double Smack (double Vegan cheese and smashed vegetable steak) to Cocorico with its homemade Coconut-Curry-Mango sauce and breaded escalope. Another particularity of the house, no frying. The sweet potato sticks and potatoes are baked in the oven. No oil bath. And if you're looking for an even lighter alternative, the small mixed greens, chickpea and dried tomato salad will be your friend. Unless you find a happy medium with homemade vegan coleslaw (vegetable mayonnaise).

Finally, if you are not in the mood to eat a burger, why set your sights on the croq pignon (halfway between croque monsieur and grilled cheese) or the hot dog.
All washed down with sparkling water with homemade strawberry juice. Roborative. So, vegan does not rhyme with asceticism.

Piccola Mia, the pizzas of the Republic

Piccola Mia, the pizzas of the Republic

On the Place de la République, a brasserie with Italian accents has just opened, which quickly made people forget the old Pizza Pino. Welcome to Piccola Mia, the fruit of the joyful encounter between Italian chef Denny Imbroisi, pizza chef Julien Serri and mixologist Matthias Giroud who creates a creative cocktail menu.

Bel Canto, an evening of singing

Bel Canto, an evening of singing

Pushing the door of Bel Canto is like entering the opera. On the upper quay of the Seine, facing Ile Saint-Louis, Bel Canto is not an ordinary restaurant. Here, we dine but above all, we come to listen to the great classics of lyrical art, performed by... the room staff!

At the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation, a haute couture restaurant

At the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation, a haute couture restaurant

Secret, or discreet, addresses are sometimes the best. This is the case of the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation café-restaurant, in the Marais, very close to the BHV. You enter through a carriage entrance which opens onto a paved courtyard. Without paying attention, we have just entered the kingdom of the brilliant fashion designer who died in 2017 at the age of 82.

The best tattoo parlors in Marais

Tattooing, an age-old practice, has long been the prerogative of convicts, dock workers, the underworld and sailors. Although it has become democratized, now affecting all profiles and concerning one in five French people, including 16% women compared to 10% men, it still remains taboo due to its definitive and transgressive nature.
