Finally after months of work and a confinement which deprived the Maison de Victor Hugo of its public, its reopening is announced!

On December 15, the house of “the writer with the golden pen” will welcome visitors with a first temporary exhibition dedicated to the painter François-Auguste Biard.

Located in the center of Place des Vosges, the apartment that Victor Hugo occupied with his family from 1832 to 1848 offers a unique experience to lovers of great literature and historical anecdotes.

Enriched route, educational workshops... the meaning of the visit has changed to offer a new fun and sensitive itinerary for adults and young people who will be asked to take the back staircase that Victor Hugo took to go incognito to his rendez-vous gallant.

Once you enter the 280 m² apartment, on the second floor of the Rohan-Guémené hotel, where the author and his family resided for nearly 16 years, the guided tour continues with an audio guide as companion who provides comments. detailed on the major rooms of the house and its precious objects.

And to think that within these walls Hugo collected the confidences of Alexandre Dumas, Honoré de Balzac, Prosper Mérimée and even Sainte-Beuve!

In his study, the audio guide also tells us that the author wrote some of his masterful works there, including part of Les Misérables, The Legend of the Centuries, Contemplations and even Ruy Blas.

After exploring the House, the discovery continues in a digital version, with a touchscreen terminal which offers a complete biography of Victor Hugo and a virtual tour of Hauteville House, in Guernsey.

But before returning to reality, the Maison Mulot café has opened in the green courtyard, redeveloped for the occasion, and will offer visitors the pleasure of extending the experience in the shade of the seven chestnut trees planted 150 years ago.
