Pushing the door of Bel Canto is like entering the opera. On the upper quay of the Seine, facing Ile Saint-Louis, Bel Canto is not an ordinary restaurant. Here, we dine but above all, we come to listen to the great classics of lyrical art, performed by... the room staff!
The dinner show starts at 20 p.m. sharp but it is possible to arrive later. Seated on a table with a white tablecloth, we first enjoy an appetizer accompanied by a Bellini cocktail. Barely seated, the lights are dimmed, a baritone and a soprano sing the air of Papageno (The Magic Flute, Mozart). These are real opera singers who, between two shows, stop off at the Bel Canto.

The starter arrives: roasted leeks in a fried onion crust or a homemade foie gras terrine. A quarter of an hour later, two other interpreters. Let's go for The woman is mobile (Rigoletto by Verdi) and the Barber of Seville (Rossini). Better than at the opera, the singers wander between the tables and stop in front of you. Then comes the main course: semi-cooked salmon steak, lamb shank, duck fillet with orange, rigatoni with truffle cream or even beef fillet.
Every fifteen minutes, voices are raised in the room. We put down our forks and listen with the singers to perform scores of Carmen (Bizet), of The Sleepwalker (Bellini), of La Traviata (Verdi). Perfect timing: long enough to appreciate the vocal performances but spaced out enough to enjoy the meal alone or with friends.

After the desserts – carrot cake, millefeuille, banana sponge cake… – the show continues until 23 p.m. If it's your birthday, a soprano comes to sing at your table. The menu (appetizer, starter, main course, dessert) costs 98 euros excluding drinks.
