The gigantic repair project at Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral is coming to an end. The dismantling of the spire scaffolding has begun. It is visible again with, at its top, a rooster which sits in majesty. In ten months, visitors will be able to return to the places which are scheduled to reopen on December 8, 2024. The objective is to completely clear the structure which peaks at 96 meters for the Paris Olympic Games.
Of course, we will not regret the existence of this mega construction site, started almost immediately after the fire of April 15 and 16, 2019. But we ended up getting used to this strange silhouette: a tubular shell which, especially at night , gave this metallic mass the appearance of a spaceship placed in the middle of Paris.
Initiated five years ago, the Notre Dame project was marked by the death of General Jean-Louis Georgelin, who chaired the public establishment responsible for the conservation and restoration of the cathedral until his accidental death in 2023. construction site was also accompanied by the release of several books and two films, Notre Dame Burns, by Jean-Jacques Annaud, and The part of the fire sur netflix.
