Envy The banquet

After Pride and Wrath, chef Eloy Spinnler tackles a third deadly sin: Envy. Entering Envie Le Banquet is like stepping into an Art Deco temple of gastronomy—its décor conceived by Dorénavant Studio—straight out of the Roaring Twenties. A colorful mosaic adorns the entrance floor, and behind the red drapes, the much-desired buffet is already visible. A fabulous setting for a gargantuan project.

True to his eco-responsible principles, the chef announces a zero-waste buffet. The desire is certainly there, but in moderation. So, we savor, without overindulging, dishes prepared with local produce and presented on attractive secondhand tableware. The small plates, 19,5 centimeters in diameter, prevent us from biting off more than we can chew!

With its attractive counters – bakery, fishmonger, delicatessen, greengrocer, cheesemonger – the cold buffet offers a multitude of possibilities. It allows you to sample everything in small portions and venture into lesser-known products: cervelle de canuts (a cheese spread), Oreiller de la Belle Aurore (a type of puff pastry), pickled cucumbers, smoked or miso-marinated fish, and a wide variety of cheeses. On the hot side, the open kitchen serves up classic French dishes, Envie style: veal blanquette, onion soup, or vegetable tarte tatin, prepared fresh right before your eyes. But save room for dessert! Cakes, canelés, rice pudding, chocolate mousse, rum baba: the selection is simply divine, as is the decadent praline that you'll want to spread everywhere. Envie Le Banquet, what a feast!
